One of the main reasons I love Agile is what I would call speed of delivery. Agile Project Management basically allows you to deliver a lot faster than you would with traditional Project Management Methodologies.
Here’s a real life example. Last year I was working on a Project that was originally going to be delivered with a Waterfall approach. It was planned for about 12 months and had a budget of >$1M. So a complex, lengthy project right? Wrong! The project was indeed complex, but the timeline and cost associated to it was more due to the approach than the project per se.
We proposed an alternative Agile approach for the delivery of this project and were able to deliver it in 3 months for less than a quarter of the original budget. So this is a perfect example of one of the many reasons I love Agile. I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this with a traditional Project Management methodology. Any thoughts on speed of Delivery of Agile vs. Waterfall or traditional methodologies?
